CELPIP Listening

Six parts. Each recording plays once, and the questions test what you understood, not what you remember word for word.

About 46 to 55 minutes in total
  1. 1. Listening to Problem Solving

    8 questions

You hear a conversation where people solve a problem, then answer questions about it.

    Tips

    • Listen for the problem first, then for who suggests what.
    • Write two or three keywords while you listen; the audio plays once.
  2. 2. Listening to a Daily Life Conversation

    5 questions

A short everyday conversation, for example between neighbours or coworkers.

    Tips

    • Notice changes of plan: 'actually', 'instead', 'but'.
    • Questions follow the order of the conversation.
  3. 3. Listening for Information

    6 questions

One person explains something, such as a service or a procedure.

    Tips

    • Numbers, dates and conditions are often asked.
    • Listen for the reason behind each step.
  4. 4. Listening to a News Item

    5 questions

A news report about a local event or decision.

    Tips

    • Separate facts from the reasons and reactions.
    • The last sentence often tells what happens next.
  5. 5. Listening to a Discussion

    8 questions

Several people discuss a topic in a video.

    Tips

    • Track who holds which opinion.
    • Agreement and disagreement words matter: 'fair point', 'I'm not sure'.
  6. 6. Listening for Viewpoints

    6 questions

Two or more people give different viewpoints on an issue.

    Tips

    • Each question usually focuses on one speaker's reason.
    • Concessions ('I agree, but...') are common answer traps.
