CLB levels and CRS points
How CELPIP levels turn into Canadian Language Benchmarks and Express Entry points.
CELPIP levels are CLB levels
From level 4 to level 12, a CELPIP level is the same number on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. CELPIP level 9 is CLB 9.
Your lowest skill decides
Programs set a minimum for each skill. For example, the Federal Skilled Worker program needs CLB 7 in all four skills, and citizenship needs CLB 4 in speaking and listening. One weak skill can hold everything back.
Why CLB 9 matters
In the Comprehensive Ranking System, each skill at CLB 9 is worth 31 points for a single applicant, against 17 at CLB 7. Reaching CLB 9 in all four skills also raises the skill transferability points for your education and work experience.
Where to start
Take a level check, then work on the skill that earns the most points for the least effort. The PR Points Engine shows that step for your own profile.
